Shut Up & Write! Sessions
Shut Up and Write! is a regular two-hour get-together, where you prioritise writing over everything else.
Struggling with focus and productivity when working alone? Join us for VIRTUAL Shut up and Write! every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning, 10am-12noon, via Zoom. If you prefer to write in person, join Freya for a FACE-TO-FACE session at Inveresk Library every Tuesday mornings, 10am-1pm, ground floor.
Whether you’re in your campus office in Hobart or working in a public library in Darwin, all on-campus, interstate and international postgraduate UTAS students are welcome to join our Zoom sessions!
Writing doesn’t need to be a solitary activity. It may seem counterintuitive, but writing in the company of others can provide a great boost to your productivity and focus. Shut Up and Write! (SUAW) is a social writing experience, providing a supportive group environment where everyone can focus on their writing.
What is Shut Up and Write!?
- A supportive group writing session – write with a bunch of people who have writing goals just like you do
- Writing is broken up into short bursts of 25 minutes with a break in between (The Pomodoro Technique). Rinse and repeat for a couple of hours and you might be surprised how much you get done!
What Shut Up and Write! is not
- A taught course or educational session on how to write – check out resources in HDR Resources and the Library for research writing workshops and support
- Competitive, ego-filled or critical. Just come along (virtually) and write with us in a friendly environment.
