About TUSA’s Food Education Initiative

We are so excited to launch our FREE Food Education Project. Let’s Get Nourished with Food Hub is part of our 3-year TUSA Food Resilience Program, offering transformative solutions to students who are experiencing the effects of the relentless rise in living costs! We have designed this program to empower students with essential knowledge and practical skills in nutrition, cooking, gardening, food preservation, and sustainable practices!

Every fortnight, join us from 12pm – 2pm on Wednesdays! In Semester 1, you will learn basic cooking skills alongside learning all about how to nourish your body, to help you feel your best and improve educational outcomes! You will walk away at the end of each class with new skills, recipes, tips and tricks and best of all, delicious freshly prepared food! 

Lesson 1: Learn how to make a balanced plate of food.

Eating a variety of foods will keep your meals interesting, flavourful, and healthy, we’ll teach you how to create balance! You’ll learn about eating in a way that best support your health and your studies, this includes; the 5 core food groups, eating the rainbow, discretionary foods, serving sizes and building a healthy plate.

Lesson 2: Learn how to eat healthy on a budget!

Learn how you can purchase get a variety of foods on a budget and spend less on food overall. You will learn how to meal plan, find foods on sale, compare food costs, minimise food waste, and ways to make your food last.

Lesson 3: Fast and Fresh: Nutritious Cooking for Busy Students!

We know that you’re all busy, come along and learn how to make quick, delicious and nutritious food! We’ll teach you how to make delicious and nutritious food in no time at all, so that you can fuel your studies without spending too much time doing so!

Lesson 4: Pre-Exam Meal Prep!

Come and cook with us, and leave with a week’s worth of healthy meals and recipes to fuel yourself for exams! A healthy body equals a healthy mind, after this you’ll be ready to ace your final exams!

Lesson 5: End of Semester Celebration!

Come and celebrate all your hard work this semester with a cooking session followed by a shared table event! You deserve it for all of your hard work! Invite all your friends, we’ll be cooking for as many people as we can!

$10,000 granted in support of the Food Education Project.

The Tasmanian Community Fund, Community Action Grant

$50,000 granted in support of the Food Education project. The Tasmanian Community Fund is an independent Fund that supports and strengthens Tasmanian communities by distributing funds to those communities.
